Windows 98 Issues

The EARTHLIGHT screensaver will work on most, but not all, Windows 98 systems.  You may find that the screensaver occasionally gives you a dark screen.   This is because Windows 98 will not play video in screensaver mode on your particular system.

We have developed a new version of the EARTHLIGHT screensaver program to correct this problem.  Please use the Problem Report Form to request it.

Creative Labs DVD Encore Board problems

There is a problem running the EARTHLIGHT screen saver program on Creative Labs DVD Encore boards that have been configured for Region 2 (Europe).  On many Region 2 systems, the screen saver may not play the EARTHLIGHT video clips correctly, may display a black screen during the playback of video clips, or may cause a Windows Error when exiting the screen saver.

We are working with Creative Labs to solve this problem.  Since the EARTHLIGHT screen saver works correctly on Region 1 systems with the Encore board, we believe the problem is in the Creative Labs Encore drivers that are shipped to Region 2 customers.

If you have a Creative Labs Encore board and your EARTHLIGHT screen saver is not working correctly, please complete a Problem Report Form.  We will contact you as soon as a new driver is available from Creative Labs to solve this problem.

What will EARTHLIGHT do on a computer that it won't do on a DVD-Video player?

EARTHLIGHT uses a newly developed computer program called SceneSaver™ to transform all its video and music into next-generation full-screen video screensaver. Whenever the computer is idle for a specified period of time, the screen automatically displays the same high-resolution full-motion Earthviews as on a DVD-player. SceneSaver™ also installs a bonus collection of high-resolution still images and several short video clips on the computer's hard drive so the screensaver will operate with or without the EARTHLIGHT disk in the DVD drive. The EARTHLIGHT screensaver is completely customizable. You can can mute the music, use password protection, play any number of Earthviews in any order (including random), and even add your own videos and stills to the screensaver images.

On most systems, the EARTHLIGHT installation program will begin automatically once you insert the disc in your DVD-ROM drive.  If not, type d:\earthlig\setup.exe (assuming d: is the letter of your DVD-ROM drive).  Be prepared for an exciting roar, because EARTHLIGHT plays a sound file of a Space Shuttle liftoff during installation.  EARTHLIGHT installs a screensaver program on your PC featuring all 28 full-screen video Earthviews plus an additional collection of high-resolution NASA stills and shorter video clips.  This collection is installed on your hard drive so the screensaver will operate whether or not you have the EARTHLIGHT disc in your computer.   After EARTHLIGHT reboots your computer, you will be invited to visit the EARTHLIGHT Web site to register your product, get information on technical support, and, if you like, download additional images to add to your collection of Earthviews.  You also have the option of viewing a series of local HTML files with useful EARTHLIGHT information, including detailed descriptions of the bonus screensaver images.
